Frequently Asked Questions

When is it?

Friday 14th of March 2025 from 5pm to 10pm.

Please note submissions cannot be made at any other time.

How does it work?

add remove
  1. Make your donation above. The minimum donation is $25 per portrait, but please give more if you are feeling generous as it’s going to a wonderful cause!
  2. Head to the Pets Of The Homeless Facebook page on Friday 14 March from 5pm to 10pm. A post will go live at 5pm Melbourne time (AEST). Please note submissions cannot be made at any other time.
  3. Take a screenshot of your donation (please crop out sensitive information like your address etc) and comment on the same post with your photo followed by your proof of donation in the same thread. So basically you would comment with your photo, then reply to your own comment with the proof of payment. You would do the same if you have multiple photos that you would like us to draw. Please keep it all under one comment, otherwise it's hard for us to follow it up.
  4. Sit back and relax while our volunteer artists work on creating their masterpieces. Once it’s done, we will reply back to your comment with the drawing. We aim to have it done within 48 hours.
  5. Admire, laugh or cry at the drawing because it is either very bad or very very good!

What if I have more than one pet?

add remove
It's a minimum donation of $25 for a drawing of up 2 pets so if you have more than 2 pets, that's totally cool by us. All you need to do is to make another donation to include all your pets.

For example if you have 3 pets, you will need to donate a minimum of $50 for all 3 of your pets to be included in the drawing.

What does it cost?

add remove
It’s a $25 donation for a drawing of 2 pets max, so if you would like to have more pets in the same drawing, just make another donation.

If you are feeling generous and can give more, that would mean the world to the vulnerable people and pets you are helping to keep together.

Will the portrait be any good?

add remove
This event is called BAD Pet Portraits as the volunteers drawing your portraits have varying skill levels.

Sometimes you might get a portrait that looks like it was drawn by Picasso, but mostly they will look like it was drawn by a 5 year old kid and that's the whole point of this event. BAD and FUNNY portraits is what we are aiming for!

Can I get a physical copy of my portrait?

add remove
Portraits are digital copies only, as unfortunately we do not have the resources to organise the distribution of physical copies. Our volunteer artists are based all over the country - even other parts of the world! So they will draw your portrait, take a photo of it, and that will then be sent to you when we reply to your comment on Facebook.

How do I become a volunteer artist?

add remove
Do you lack artistic prowess when it comes to drawing? Well, we've got an opportunity just for you!

Please RSVP to our Bad Pet Portraits event on Facebook here, and keep an eye out for our callout for volunteer artists. This will contain details on how to apply.
Erin kneeling down to say a heartfelt goodbye to Spud, a beloved dog, capturing a tender moment supported by Pets of the Homeless.

Your Impact

Your support will help to keep best friends together, like Erin & Spud.

The road has not been easy for the devoted duo of almost 10 years, who were separated when Erin faced homelessness following a series of traumatic events. But after Spud’s two stints in our foster care program to enable Erin to find her feet, she secured a safe space for her beloved boy to come home.

When they were finally reunited after two months in foster care, their moving video was loved by thousands. Spud was so joyful in fact that in his haste to jump into his human’s arms, the stocky boy managed to knock out Erin’s front teeth!

“It was so comforting to know that Spud was safe, and that he was with a family who loved him and took care of him,” Erin said.

“I can’t even imagine what I would do if I had to surrender Spud. I am so grateful that Pets of the Homeless stepped in.”
